Using Technology

I hope that once I enter the professional teaching field that I am placed within an technology friendly environment. Knowing what I know about technology improving learning in other states and even countries I would love to bring that into my classroom. Students are looking to us as educators to provide them with the knowledge and know how for the real world, so why not include technology in that world. We are so far behind Asia, and china when it comes to technology, they are creating programs everyday to enhance their learning patterns. Using technology will boost education and prepare students for jobs in fortune 500 companies someday.

Google Docs

I am so glad I took EDM 310 and had the opportunity to explore google docs. It has made doing presentations that much easier. It is easy to upload objects, and even edit. I'm not the most computer savvy person but i found this program to be a real winner. If you have never tried it, I encourage anyone to just visit the site and play around with it. I saved at least an hour by using Google docs as opposed to PowerPoint. It really makes the overall presentation seem better as well.

Google Me

The phrase "Google Me" has a whole new meaning. I hate it when you are telling someone about something either in life or from television and they have to stop and google what you are saying. The other night I was on the phone and watching The Wizard of Oz, and I said to my friend did you ever see the original movie before it was remastered with the munchkin hanging from the tree in the background. She said no, but let me google it real quick. I was like are you serious. This girl and her mother live by google. If I said it's black they will google to see if it's true. Some of us have become to dependent on Google.

Are We Ther e Yet?

Sometimes I feel like I am still years behind the technology age. I hold a degree in Information Systems but even that has changed drastically over the course of a year. I would have to devote my life to buying and upgrading my computer systems. It seems like there is a new program every month that is better than the last. So I am asking myself, are we there yet? Have we reached a technology stopping poiint so that others can catch up on some of the information. I don't think we have arrived at that point yet.

Keeping Up with the Jones'

The term keeping up with the Jones' has a whole new meaning in the technology field. Many of us are so unaware of the technology available to us right in the comfort of our own home. My neighbor is also running out to Kinkos for something that she can do right from her own desktop at home. She had a project due at work and had to include her blueprint layout. She was headed to her car and I asked if she was making her usual run and she replied,"you know it!" I asked her if she had her office programs on her home computer and she said yeah I do but I don't have them set up properly. After a quick click of a few buttons she now had it up and going. She said I should have been keeping up with the Jones' a long time ago and learning more about my home computer.
